This journey combines the ancient wonders of Peru with the
natural wonders of the Galapagos Islands. Staying in 5 star or the best
available accommodation, visit the ancient Inca capital of Cuzco, high in
the Andes mountains, and the spectacular ‘lost city’ of Machu Picchu. In the
Galapagos Islands, cruise aboard the first-class Explorer II and encounter
the remarkably tame and diverse wildlife that inhabits these islands.
Day 1 To Lima: Fly from London to Lima via Amsterdam with KLM. On arrival transfer to the Swissôtel for 2 nights. (N) Day 2 Lima: Take a half day tour of Lima, visiting the Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology, the colonial centre and Miraflores. (B) Day 3 To Cuzco: Morning flight to Cuzco. Transfer to the Hotel Libertador for 2 nights. Afternoon at leisure. (B) Day 4 Cuzco: Morning tour of Cuzco including the nearby Inca site of Sacsayhuamán. (B) Day 5 To The Sacred Valley: Full day tour visiting the Indian market at Pisac and the Inca fortress of Ollantaytambo. Overnight in the valley at the Casa Andina. (B, L) Day 6 To Machu Picchu: Morning transfer to Ollanta station and board the train to Machu Picchu. Morning tour with the afternoon free for independent exploration. Overnight at the Hotel Machu Picchu Pueblo. (B, L, D) Day 7 To Cuzco: Morning at leisure. Afternoon train journey to Cuzco. Transfer to the Hotel Libertador for 1 night. (B) Day 8 To Quito: Early morning flight to Quito, via Lima. Transfer to the Hotel Hilton Colon for 1 night. (B) Day 9
To Galapagos Islands: Fly to Santa Cruz Island in the Galapagos. Transfer to
the Explorer II for a 4-night cruise. The Galapagos Islands offer some of
the rarest wildlife experiences on earth. Nowhere else are animals
encountered at such close quarters, and in such variety, from uniquely
adapted seabirds to tortoises and whales. Days 10–12 Galapagos: These days will be spent exploring islands with different characteristics in order to see as much variety of wildlife and landscapes as possible. Visits include the islands of Bartolome, Santiago, Fernandina, Isabela and Seymour. The itinerary is subject to change due to weather conditions, readjustment of National Park policies or the Captain’s discretion. (B, L, D) Day 13 To Quito: Fly to Quito. Transfer to the Hotel Hilton Colon for 2 nights. (B) Day 14 Quito: Morning tour of Quito, one of the most compact and charming capitals in Latin America.
